GEORGETOWN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH LEADERSHIP
Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Our vision is to actively live the example of Jesus Christ. Everything we do is about helping us become fully formed in Christ’s image. The Governance Board is the primary decision-making body of our church. The Governance Board Chair, the Pastor, and eight other board members envision, plan, implement, and evaluates the overall mission and ministry of the congregation. It fulfills the duties of both the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), attending to congregational health and staff relations, and the Trustees Committee, overseeing finance and property.
-
The Leadership Development Committee is a group of eight people who assist the Pastor to recruit, prepare, and develop effective lay leadership to guide the ministry of the congregation. Committee members seek to identify the gifts, skills, interests, and abilities of individuals in the congregation, and match these with opportunities for service. They nominate a slate of officers to be elected by the annual Church Conference for the coming year.
-
The Lay Leader/Lay Member (sometimes more than one person) serves as the congregational representative. They keep a finger on the pulse of our Annual Conference and on our community and sit on the Governance Board and Leadership Development Committee. They attend the Annual Conference, talk about what happens there, and help keep the congregation aware of opportunities in our District and Conference.
-
The Personnel Team helps foster healthy relationships between pastor, staff, and the congregation. They create opportunities for staff and congregation to deepen their partnership including organizing fellowship opportunities, offering support from the congregation for staff persons, and helping the curation of staff-related policy at GUMC at the Governance Board’s directive and in support of the pastor.
-
The Finance Team is charged with the task of preparing an annual budget for adoption by our Governance Board. The team is composed of the Governance Board chair, other ministry leaders, and folks with the gifts of stewardship. This team decides what fundraising methods will be used to adequately support the church’s ministry and interprets to the congregation the biblical and theological basis for good stewardship practices.
-
The Facilities Team has responsibility for supervision, oversight, and care of all property and equipment owned by the church, from fixing the website to tending our garden, these folks have their hands in many places. This team is aided by various volunteers in the upkeep of our building and grounds.
-
The Intentional Faith Development Team envisions and implements GUMC’s strategic discipleship pathway and provides opportunities for the congregation to grow in Christian faith through Bible study, mutual accountability, fellowship, and other faith-forming practices.
-
The Missions Team calls us to reach out with the love of Christ wherever there is need in our community and around the world. With donations from the congregation, this team oversees our Food Pantry, Blessing Boxes, Feeding America food truck distributions, as well as other hands-on mission projects.
-
Members of our Church & Society Team have a mission to engage the world in transformative ways. They are called not only to make a difference in the world, but to bring other people together to make a difference as well.
-
The Worship Design Team coordinates with the pastor and music leaders to ensure that our worship services are faithful, uplifting, and meaningful for the congregation. Team members give particular attention to our worship services during the holiday seasons and when we are celebrating Holy Communion.
-
The Care Team supports the pastor in offering prayer, care, and support to the sick and homebound persons in the congregation. They pay particular attention to the inclusion of homebound members in the sacramental life of the church by bringing them home communion.

Georgetown United Methodist Church welcomes all people because Jesus welcomed all people, and we value living like Jesus as much as believing in Jesus. The hospitality and guest service teams ensures this value by making members, guests, and visitors feel welcome every Sunday. Ushers and greeters assist guests and worshipers alike to feel comfortable, safe and right at home.
